This pub has the appearance of a shop conversion, so I would have thought that that was its origin but apparently it has been around for centuries and inside it has the feel of a nice old fashioned pub. The excellent choice of real ales and the view of the cathedral only add to the traditional pub experience.
The remnants of the well from which the pub derives its name can still be seen in the cellar apparently.along with a plague victim skeleton gruesomely.
gutted that I didn't see the Skinners Cornish lager the other reviewers mention. -

Well it's well a bit lacking in character actually considering it's supposed to be so old . Definite cafe style with a bit of traditional thrown in . A number of real ales of really not much imagination .Beer quality ok . Pub a bit sports focused .

Great selection of ales and ciders. Some unusual ones as well! Good place to go for a casual drink. :)

too noisy for my liking and for the character/ layout of the pub, loud music, rammed full of swearing teens, not impressed.

Too noisy for my liking, Oasis at high volume and lots of football fans. And the beer is rather pricey, more than I pay in London, £3.30 a pint. Pity really, could have been a lot better, ho-hum....
